It is fun reading seeing
the names and remembering the times I had with the sea scouts. And
what a great person Dave Wood was to have lead us.
My dad, Bart Garey, was given charge of operating and teaching sailing
of the 32 foot irwin sailboat named Bluey which was docked out of
the Kings Bay marina. He took a lot of the sea scouts out to teach
what he loved and that was to sail.
He had his own sailboat from about 1945 to 1958 and knew Biscayne
bay like the back off his hand .
He operated the Bluey from about 1968 to 1975, I think.
We sailed the Bluey to Bimini on several occasions and so many trips
around the bay.
My mother Sara Garey and sister Sally Garey became a part of the
crew to teach the younger sailors on the running of the boat and
"spinnaker flying" which was always the hit of the cruise,
being dunked into the water.
My dad use to enjoy throwing a tow rope behind the boat and let
anyone who wanted to "drag" behind the boat. That was
also a good time. he would take the Bluey to meet up with the other
sea scout boats from time to time to have a big "rally".
That too a good time for all.
